What's the story here then...
Polite Paws Dog Training is run by myself – Angela Doyle PACT-KSA. I am a full member of PACT (Professional Association of Canine Trainers), a Registered Animal Training Instructor with the ABTC (Animal Behaviour & Training Council), an official Scent Imprint For Dogs Instructor, a recognised trainer for Scentwork UK, and initially trained with the APDT (UK) (Association of Pet Dog Trainers).
I have always been an animal lover, having grown up with dogs and horses, have always wanted to incorporate this love into a career, and this came to fruition when I adopted my rescue dog, Dylan. I was working in Marketing at the time, and it was never something I enjoyed. When Dylan came to me he had been living on the street, was was very underweight, nervous and with matted fur. As he settled in, his anxieties showed themselves in more severe behavioural issues including fear reactivity towards people and dogs, and separation anxiety.
I started to work closely with a Veterinary Behaviourist, and started to read lots of books on dog behaviour, as I started to understand more about how dogs learn, and began to achieve great results with Dylan, my passion for working with dogs using reward based methods, and in particular clicker training, was ignited. These methods work! There is never any need to use force or intimidation with dogs… not only is in unethical, but it does not address the reason for the behaviour. It was at this point that I decided I wanted to officially re-train myself so that I could help other people train their dogs and address any behavioural problems they were experiencing using modern, ethical methods… so I began my training with the Association of Pet Dog Trainers – APDT (UK). I passed with flying colours and I then set up Polite Paws Dog Training in 2012 and haven’t looked back! Dylan has absolutely been my inspiration for this journey, so much so it was important for me that he featured in the branding… so the dog in my logo is an actual silhouette of Dylan!
I have a passion to not only help people train their dogs, but to educate people on how dogs learn and on dog behaviour in order to prevent problems before they arise. I aim to show people there is never a need to use any force or harsh handling in any aspect of training or behavioural modification.
I am vet recommended, professional, friendly, and adhere to a strict code of ethics I am bound to by my membership of PACT, ABTC and the PPGBI. I regularly attend workshops and seminars by world renowned trainers and behaviourists to ensure my knowledge is up to date, and I am also studying for my Advanced Diploma in Applied Animal Behaviour (Canine).
I already enjoyed training dogs, but whilst working closely with a Veterinary Behaviourist to help Dylan overcome his issues (using only reward based, scientifically proven methods) I realised that helping address these severe behavioural issues was something I found incredibly rewarding… and I was also good at it!
