"Polite Puppy" Class
Our puppy course runs for 8 weeks and is for puppies under the age of 20 weeks at the start. Classes run in Westcott. Each class runs for 50 minutes and is limited to 8 puppies per class. We are advocates of clicker/marker training – it really is “quicker with a clicker”!
During the course we discuss and tackle common problems, such as puppy biting, teaching your puppy to greet people without jumping up, house training, socialisation, teaching your puppy to be comfortable spending short periods of time alone. We also work on the following:- Teaching pups to “settle”; Sit; Down; Stand; Loose lead walking; Recall; Leave it; Drop an item when asked; Stay & Wait; Eye contact, focus & engagement.
Each new behaviour learnt will be backed up with emailed handouts and Angela will provide email or phone support for the duration of the course.
Once you have completed this course we would encourage you to continue training (after all, training your dog is a continuous process!) and move onto our Intermediate class or you have the option of attending a scentwork, fun tricks or platform training class!
Please visit the “Calendar” to see when and where the next classes start.
1-2-1 “Polite Puppy” Home Study
Sometimes, due to our busy schedules, it is difficult to spare time each week to attend a puppy class, or maybe you have done a fair bit of training at home already, but just want help in certain areas. We therefore offer 1-2-1 sessions in the comfort of your own home, or at a pre-agreed public area, to work on the behaviours you would like help with.
We also offer a personalised 6 week “Polite Puppy” home programme where we can either work through the content of our puppy classes, or can work through a programme personalised to your needs, in your home. This would entail one lesson a week, for the 6 week period.
One off session: £65 per hour
Pre-booked block of 2-4 sessions: 5% discount
5 or more pre-booked sessions: 10% discount

Choosing whether or not to get a puppy can be very exciting, but daunting at the same time. It is vital that you give thought to which breeds would fit into your lifestyle, how breeds can differ, and what a dog’s needs will be throughout their life. It is also important to ensure you pick a reputable and responsible breeder. There is even the question of whether to get a puppy from a breeder or a rescue puppy/dog. This is especially important if you are a new dog owner. We can help you with all these important questions!
If you have already chosen your puppy, and are waiting to collect him or her, we can help you make their transition into your home as easy and stress free as possible. We can discuss how to prepare the home in advance, what to do for the first few nights, how to introduce your puppy to other pets or people, and discuss potential problems in advance in order to prevent them.
Cost: £65 (mileage costs may apply)
Pre-vaccination Home Visits
We can help by advising how to correctly socialise your puppy during the important socialisation period (up to the age of 16 or 20 weeks, depending on the breed) and how to integrate your new puppy into family life…this includes ensuring safe interactions between children and the puppy. We can help start to teach important life skills, and tackle common problems you will encounter. These sessions are the perfect time to learn how to start your training journey on the right foot and avoid getting into bad habits.

Scentwork - classes & workshops
Angela is an official Scent Imprint for Dogs Instructor, as well as a recognised trainer for Scentwork UK.
Scentwork is where a dog uses his sense of smell to identify and locate a scent that he has been trained to detect.
It helps build the bond between dog and handler, and assists in your ability to read your dog’s body language, and is open to all dogs, all ages, all breeds and all abilities. Scentwork is a natural behaviour for dogs and, as a training activity it is fun, rewarding and very mentally tiring for your dog!
The Beginners class is run over an 8 week course, at the end of which you should be at the level to compete at Detection Dog Trials or Scentwork UK Trials, should you wish to do so. Each course will be strictly limited to an absolute maximum of 6 dogs per class. Dogs will learn to search for food initially, and then search for scent ( usually clove, but if dogs are not motivated by clove we will suggest an alternative scent for that dog to work for) hidden in a variety of locations
Cost: £150 for 8 weeks and £115 for 6 weeks.
We also run scent detection workshops at a variety of locations – private woodland in East Horsley ( where we also search around a variety of equipmentsuch as trailers, caravans, a boat), a theatre and a football stadium to name a few. NEW VENUES BEING ANNOUNCED SOON! These workshops are open to all dogs of all abilities as long as the dogs are searching for scent.
Workshop cost: £30 per dog
Platform training is a fairly new concept to the world of dog training, although platforms have been used for years to train animals in circuses and zoos. We are delighted to be able to teach this amazing concept to our clients. A platform is a raised surface which the dog stands on, and they are fantastic, versatile tools for teaching a wide variety of behaviours and for encouraging your dog to problem solve.
Dogs learn to stand on a platform to match your body position, which means you end up with a perfect heel, close, front and behind position (the 4 main obedience positions), and this really improves heel work (which is one of the main problems people contact us for). Platforms are invaluable for introducing distance work, for developing body awareness and flexibility, adding precision to various positions, working on certain tricks and for providing invaluable mental stimulation for your dog.
Our classes run for 8 weeks, and each class is 50 minutes long. We give dogs regular breaks during this class in order to assist the learning process, and because it is mentally and physically tiring for them. These classes are very popular and spaces are strictly limited.
Tricks Classes & Awards
Teaching your dog tricks is not only great fun, but it provides important mental stimulation, builds an excellent bond between dog and handler, can increase flexibility and body awareness, teaches your dog new skills, and enables you to truly see exactly what your dog is capable of! Plus it can be a really fun way of showing off to your friends!
We run classes working towards the various levels of the National Canine Trick Star Awards !
Among the tricks we teach are ‘simple’ ones such as “paw” and “spin/twist” (from the Apprentice Award level) to “bow”, chin target, leg weaves and a crawl (from the Graduate Award Level), progressing to more complex tricks such as “pray” and “tidy up” (moving through Master and Pro Awards levels).
Tricks classes run on alternate Thursday nights at 8.15pm in Westcott on a PAYG basis (£15 per class). Booking is necessary.
A vital part of socialisation is ensuring your puppy has lots of positive experiences with other dogs and people, so that they grow up to be confident adults. During this walk (which is for puppies under 6 months old) your puppy will spend some time on the lead working on focus and connection, how to ignore joggers, cyclists, livestock and other walkers and how to appropriately interact with other dogs, and will spend some time off lead while we discuss appropriate play and how to prevent problems. We will also discuss general dog walking etiquette.
We will also help you to gain the confidence to take the first steps towards allowing your puppy off the lead if you have not already done so.
Cost: £15. Booking is required.
